Stormzy is the stage name of Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr., a British rapper, singer, and composer. He became well-known in the UK underground music scene in 2014 because of his Wicked Skengman series of freestyles performed over vintage grime sounds.

Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr. was born in Croydon, London, on July 26, 1993. He is the cousin of rapper Nadia Rose and has a Ghanaian mother. Together with his mother, brother, and two sisters, he was raised in South Norwood, London.

Although he enjoyed music, Stormzy did not come from a very musical family.

At age 11, he started rapping , and at his neighborhood youth club, he would spar with more experienced rappers.


After Stormzy started a campaign to achieve Christmas number one, his single "Shut Up," which was first made available as a freestyle on YouTube, gained popularity and reached number eight on the UK Singles Chart. With "Vossi Bop," Stormzy got his first UK number-one hit in 2019. His headline performance at the 2019 Glastonbury Festival received high praise, and in response to the spike in knife violence in London, he donned a Union Jack stab vest created by Banksy. Awards and nominations

Stormzy was named an artist to watch in the BBC's Sound of 2015 list and won Best Grime Act at the 2014 and 2015 MOBO Awards. Gang Signs & Prayer, his self-titled debut album from 2017, became the first grime record to top the UK Albums Chart and was named British Album of the Year at the 2018 Brit Awards.

He received a Grammy for his work on the Burna Boy album Twice as Tall, which won the 2020 Grammy for Best Global Album.

It looks that Stormzy and Maya Jama have reconciled as of July 2020 after a protracted breakup.

In a January 2020 interview with Charlamagne Tha God, Stormzy said that he still wished to wed Bristol beauty Maya and that he continued to adore her.
